Under the transit offering, passengers can travel throughout the kingdom or perform the Umrah pilgrimage.
Recognitions for Saudia
In July, Saudia ranked first worldwide for its on-time departure and arrival performance, according to the aviation tracking site, Cirium. It outranked other global carriers with an on-time departure rate of 88.73 percent. This applies to its 16,133 flights to and from 100 destinations spread on four continents.
Moreover, Saudia achieved on-time departure and arrival performance in June 2024, a peak travel month for the Hajj pilgrimage.
Saudia Group Director General Eng. Ibrahim Al-Omar remarked, “This accomplishment is a realization of our strategic goals to enhance operational efficiency and quality through continuous improvements in flight scheduling and implementing the best digital solutions and systems for operations management.”
“Maintaining a high level of on-time performance requires significant effort, as it involves overcoming numerous operational challenges in the aviation industry, such as weather conditions, high temperatures, technical issues, and other airport-related factors,” he added.
“I express my gratitude to all Saudia employees for their diligent work in maintaining the national flag carrier’s operational excellence.”
Apart from its on-time and on-time arrival performance in 2024, Saudia was also named the most improved airline. It also won the award for having the Best Economy Class catering.
Room for growth
Also in July, Saudia announced that it had entered an agreement with aircraft developer Lilium to purchase 100 eVTOL jets. The purchase marked the biggest order yet for eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft.
“The eVTOL jets are revolutionizing guest transportation,” His Excellency, Saudia Group Director General Engr. Ibrahim Al-Omar added. “Their unique vertical take-off and landing capabilities open up entirely new routes.”
“Imagine traveling up to 175 kilometers at speeds of 250 kilometers per hour, saving valuable time compared to traditional options.”
Moreover, the purchase signifies Saudia’s commitment to promoting sustainability by reducing its carbon footprint and becoming an aviation industry leader.
