teamLab Borderless: Learning through play
From 3 p.m. to 2 a.m., visitors can enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience that thrills the senses and utilizes innovative technology. The high-tech exhibitions will offer an unforgettable day of learning and play for visitors of all ages, especially children.
For instance, the exhibition “Sketch Ocean” allows guests to draw and color fish on paper. Later on, these fish sketches will come alive as animated digital drawings to be displayed on the museum walls. Moreover, kids can play with these fish by touching and even feeding them.
Another interesting exhibition is “Sketch Factory,” wherein visitors can print their “Sketch Ocean” creations onto different items. These include t-shirts, bags, and badges.
In the “Athletic Forest” exhibition, on the other hand, guests enter a three-dimensional space stimulating physical activity and spatial perception. Specifically, they can jump up and down and interact with an assortment of objects in the area.
Opening Saudi Arabia up to the world
These are just a few of the digital art exhibitions that will amaze and enthrall visitors on Saudi National Day. With these offerings, teamLab Borderless and Saudi authorities hope to inspire a new generation of creative thinkers and tech lovers.
Moreover, the interactive and educational digital artworks help promote the Vision 2030 goals of diversifying cultural offerings. These also underscore the goal of innovatively opening Saudi Arabia up to the world.
About BeWunder and teamLab Borderless
BeWunder, a company specializing in event production and immersive spaces, is part of the team behind the one-day exhibition. Their expertise includes lighting, interactive attractions, multimedia technology, scenery, and architecture. By working with teamLab Borderless Jeddah, they were able to bring the international art collective’s vision to life.
Speaking to Blooloop, BeWunder senior project manager Daniel Charles spoke about their work on such projects. He also emphasized that their level of experience in the area was essential to the exhibition’s successful implementation.
“We’re a global company,” Charles explained. “We’ve got offices in Europe, Japan, where we’re currently working on World Expo projects, and the Middle East.”
“One of the things that makes us unique is the scale of projects we do,” he added. “Digital art museums are a fairly new concept, and doing projects of this size in our industry is extremely rare. And we’ve proven ourselves to be leaders in this area.”
Keys to success
According to BeWunder’s design coordination manager, Gurmeet Kaur, their past work with Japanese designers was instrumental in designing the exhibition.
“One of the key factors in our success was our prior experience working with Japanese designers,” said Kaur. “We understood their working processes and were able to integrate that with the demands and expectations of the project in Jeddah,” he added.
“We maintained an open line of communication with teamLab. This ensured all stakeholders were aligned and we could meet the project’s ambitious timeline.”
