Saudi Arabia’s ROSHN Group has revealed plans to construct a 45,000-seat stadium in southwest Riyadh, the ROSHN Stadium. The Public Investment Fund (PIF) company and real estate developer announced the project on Tuesday, July 30.
The ROSHN Stadium will span 450,000 square meters and feature a main sports and event floor, interconnecting its different facilities and amenities. It will also offer various retail spaces like restaurants, stores, and hospitality providers.
Crystalline design
Moreover, the stadium will stand out for its one-of-a-kind design resembling a crystalline structure reaching for the sky. Given this unique style, the stadium’s roof design also promotes air circulation, lit by natural light during the daytime.
Adding to the structure’s sustainability, the stadium will use cutting-edge water and energy management technologies and solar panels.
To reach the ROSHN Stadium, visitors can use walkways and green spaces.
All these design elements support the ROSHN Stadium’s suitability for international sporting, entertainment, cultural, and social events.
The ROSHN Stadium: Improving the quality of life
ROSHN Group CEO Dr. Khalid Johar remarked, “ROSHN Stadium embodies ROSHN’s strategic transformation as a multi-asset class developer.”
“We are proud to undertake this ambitious project, which will contribute to improving the quality of life and supporting economic growth in line with Saudi Vision 2030 while providing a unique gathering place in Riyadh and boosting the Kingdom’s attractiveness to host international events and sporting competitions.”
Building the ROSHN Stadium supports the ROSHN Group’s plans to expand into mixed-use development over different sectors. It also underscores the Group’s goal of improving the quality of life through sustainable real estate development.
The King Salman Stadium
The ROSHN Stadium isn’t the only stadium being built for international sporting events.
In July, the Royal Commission for Riyadh and the Saudi Ministry of Sports revealed plans for the King Salman Stadium. The stadium will be north of Riyadh, with a seating capacity of 92,000, more than double that of ROSHN. It will have a connection to the King Abdulaziz Park.
Apart from its seating capacity of 92,000, the King Salman Stadium will offer 360,000 square meters of sports facilities. This will include an Olympic swimming pool, athletics track, training fields, fan zones, and an indoor sports hall. It will also include outdoor courts for basketball, volleyball, and padel (a type of tennis).
Visitors can access the King Salman Stadium via Riyadh’s train station and major roads throughout the metropolis. It will also be near the King Khalid International Airport.
Similar to ROSHN, the stadium will also adopt sustainable systems for its visitors. Sustainable cooling systems will refresh spectators and players alike. Monitors will also boost audiences’ experience.
With these facilities and amenities, the stadium will be ready to host international sporting events in the future.
All these infrastructural initiatives underscore Saudi Arabia’s objective of attracting 150 million visitors annually, part of its Vision 2030 goals.
