Riyadh will be introducing a new architectural marvel in the coming years with the King Salman Stadium.

Visitors will have easy access to King Salman Stadium via Riyadh’s train station and major roads throughout the metropolis. It will also be near the King Khalid International Airport.
The Royal Commission for Riyadh and the Saudi Ministry of Sports will equip the stadium with a 92,000-seat capacity. The 92,000 seating capacity is for the main stadium, which includes a royal box with 150 seats. In addition, there will also be 2,200 seats for dignitaries, 300 VIP seats, and 120 hospitality suites.
On top of this, the King Salman Stadium will cover an area of over 600,000 square meters. Given this, the plan is for it to become one of the world’s largest sporting arenas.
A leading sports hub in the making
The entire area of the King Salman Stadium covers more than 360,000 square meters of sports facilities. In particular, this will include an Olympic swimming pool, athletics track, training fields, fan zones, and an indoor sports hall. It will also include outdoor courts for basketball, volleyball, and padel (a type of tennis).
Moreover, these sports facilities have a connection to King Abdulaziz Park.
Sustainable cooling systems will refresh not just spectators but players as well. In addition, monitors will be installed surrounding the upper stadium interior to boost audiences’ experience.
All these features underscore Saudi Arabia’s aim of developing its sports sector to become a leading global sports hub.
With these amenities, the King Salman Stadium will be ready to host local and international sporting events in the future.
The inspiration for the King Salman Stadium</span?
Six international companies competed by sending their design concepts for the King Salman Stadium. These followed the criteria of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) and its principles of promoting architectural excellence and sustainability.
In the end, the final design took inspiration from a mountainous terrain concept. Its design will blend with that of King Abdulaziz Park, creating a linked network of greenery.
Keeping green spaces in mind, the stadium will feature green walls and roofs that measure 96,500 square meters. These meet environmental sustainability and green building standards.
The Royal Commission for Riyadh City remarked in a tweet, “This design was chosen from several submissions by six international companies, ensuring it meets FIFA requirements and standards of sustainability and architectural excellence.”
The King Salman Stadium will be completed within the fourth quarter of 2029. With such an initiative, Saudi authorities look forward to winning the right to host the 2034 World Cup.
