Earlier, in June, China approved Saudi Arabia with the status of being a preferred destination for Chinese tourists. With this status, Chinese travelers may visit Saudi Arabia in a tour group.
The initiative was part of the kingdom’s participation in the second China Roadshow and the ITB China in Shanghai. It underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to becoming an economic and strategic partner of China. Moreover, it signifies a milestone in Saudi travel as it aims to make China its third-largest source of international arrivals by 2030.
Another strategy is to Increase flight connections between the two countries. Hence, airlines are expanding routes to accommodate the expected influx of visitors.
Strengthening partnerships

These measures aim to provide a seamless and enjoyable experience for Chinese travelers. In July, travelers from China received access to 130 percent more flights between the two countries.
Meanwhile, in September, Chinese educators started arriving in Saudi Arabia. This is in line with the partnership between the two countries’ ministries of education and China’s Tianjin Normal University.
Under the collaboration, Chinese teachers would teach Mandarin in Saudi schools to establish a future pool of professionals. These professionals would be in the tourism, logistics, and technology industries relevant to Saudi Arabia’s relationship with China.

Also in line with Saudi Arabia’s tourism strategy is the strengthening of bilateral relations with China. Recently, the Saudi minister of tourism visited China to discuss partnerships, particularly in the travel sector. He emphasized the great potential of the kingdom’s tourism sector and how together they can enhance the travel experience.
Economic impact on Saudi Arabia
The potential economic benefits of attracting Chinese tourists are substantial, as Chinese tourists are known for their high spending. This holds especially true, particularly in luxury goods and services. Moreover, the influx of tourists will boost local businesses and create job opportunities.
Overall, the expected contribution to the local economy is significant. Tourism growth aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader economic goals, supporting various sectors and promoting sustainable development.
